Biography

With over a decade of experience scaling digital infrastructure across Africa, Grégoire Nkundabakura is widely regarded as one of the continent’s foremost experts in API design and distributed systems. A Kigali native and alumnus of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), GN began his career optimizing mobile money APIs for Rwanda’s national fintech ecosystem before moving on to architect high-throughput payment gateways used by millions across East and West Africa.

He served as Senior Backend Engineering Lead at Flutterwave, where he redesigned core transaction APIs that now process over $25B annually ensuring millisecond latency, 99.99% uptime, and seamless integration for banks, startups, and global platforms like Uber and Amazon. His work earned him a spot on Disrupt Africa’s “40 Under 40 Tech Innovators” list in 2023.

A passionate educator, GN has trained engineering teams at Equity Bank, M-KOPA, and Andela, and now brings his battle-tested expertise to Wacre Skill Centre. Known for his no-nonsense teaching style and obsession with clean, secure, and scalable code, he doesn’t just teach APIs he teaches how to build the invisible engines that power Africa’s digital future.

When he’s not debugging microservices or speaking at DevCon Kigali, GNmentors young developers through Rwanda’s Code+API Fellowship, championing homegrown talent to lead the next wave of African tech sovereignty.
